To all first time mom who had delivered baby recently!?

I am 38 weeks pregnant! I just packed my delivery bag for hospital! I want to ask to all the first time mom's who had recently delivered baby- Did you forgot to take anything which was very very important?

I just packed everything that is required - 2 nightgowns, pairs of socks ,pair of slippers ,nursing pads, nursing bra ,2 one piece bodysuits...etc after researching on net. But still can u suggest me something which is very important that i am missing!

I packed a favorite stuffed animal, a small one that I held for the longest time while in labor- then I gave it to my daughter and told her that the animal was with me all the time in L&D- it has great sentimental value and even smelled a little like the hospital!! She loved the idea!!

also SODAS AND SNACKS!!! Pack some snacks for you and hubby, have hubby bring a cooler with lots of soft drinks- the hospital staff is too busy to keep you supplied and buying them in the hospital costs extra $$- so we brought our own sodas and snacks!! plus bring change for vending machines if you want anything else- beats having to run to the cafeteria and eventually, hubby will not want to leave the room. Remember- for you, try to keep caffeine free generally to keep your blood pressure down, but have a drink with a little caffeine there for a boost.

They also suggest to bring a favorite pillow and blanket for your comfort, leave your jewelry at home, remember your camera, camcorder and it's AC or chargers!!! Remember your brush, toothbrush, cosmetics, a mirror!! and anything like body spray that will make you feel feminine and yourself- being so exposed and with somebody constantly up your crotch, those little things will make you feel more dignified being in those embarrassing situations- also hair clips, hair ties, head bands- to keep your hair out of your face- remember, it is called labor because it is alot of work!!

Remember warm clothes for the baby when you take him/her home!

to save you lugging in a huge bag, pack a bag with going home clothes for you and baby that someone can take in later. Also pack a nice top (pregnant size still) so that you can look ok for your first posed baby pics as often this is the pic everyone gets shown (bottom half can look rubbish as it will be under bedding!).

I would suggest more babygros, but again in a bag that can be taken along later if needed.

my hopspital asked that we have a separate easy to find bag with babygro, vest, nappy, hat and blanket for baby to go into as soon as its born. This is given to the midwife to put on as soon as baby is weighed as baby gets very cold when its born! They also suggested that you pack your labour stuff in one bag (eg oils, t-shirts, music) with the baby bag, and the stuff for the stay in another that can be left in car for your birth partner to pick up after labour.

Hmm, I took toiletried and sanitary pads and disposable panties. THAT is a must! Get a pack of cottons if no disposable's and throw away after. Take a few snacks and a book and some onesies for the baby that will fit him/her. Our hospital had undershirts that were TOO big and my son was swimming in them at 7-6.

When you decide what to wear home, make sure it is stretchy and bigger than your other clothes. If you buy panties, buy them a size bigger than normal (at least). Something to keep your feet warm, and a pillow and blanket for your support person. My laptop was a LIFESAVER while I spent the 4 days at the hospital after my c-section. The hospital had wifi and I could email my family and friends baby updates daily (she was in the NICU), and play games to take my mind off the crappy situation and the pain.

Good luck and congrats!

the "etc" doesn't help tell me what you DO have, but makes sure that you have plenty of undies, and something to wear home, you don't want to be walking out to your car in your nightgown. But it sounds like you have done your research, so just relax as much as you can. Good luck and congrats on the baby!

You want to remember you toothbrush, toothpaste, and something to put your hair back. I best thing that I had during my delivery was a dula. They assist you throughout the entire delivery. My dula was totally worth the price. She let my husband sleep and when I needed a nurse she would find them right away so my husband could stay with me. Just a thought.

Yeah! You forgot the toothbrush.

But don't worry - they've got it all at the hospital. You're having a CHILD!

You are not gonna be left in the cold cold snow unless you live in George Bush-country. In that case, may God help you!

But you're having a child anyway, so 'Don't Worry - Be Happy'.

Nurses without limits - care all over; that's their job.

The best to you and the small one!

Lars.

Toiletries ie: maternity pads if you have a natural you'll definaltey need them. Books/Magazines nipple cream if you breastfeed mitten for bubs as their nails are a little long and too soft to cut anything else should be covered in your hospital leaflet.

I packed a cheap pack of undies about 10 pairs in the packet then i could just bin them after i used them (you bleed alot after having a baby so they get a bit messy) also some comfortable clothes to go home in.

I forgot shampoo, soap and toothpaste. I would also take Always overnight pads. At the hospital, they have these ridiculous pads and hose they make you wear.

I brought my own pillow but wished I had brought my own blanket as well. I had flip flops for the shower and a bathrobe b/c it was easier to just keep on the hospital gown.

Dont know if you packed this already but an invaluable item I had was disposable maternity knickers! So much better than cotton ones and you just bin them! Not pretty looking but thats the last thing on your mind! Good luck x

i forgot food (snacks at least)

the hospital food was disgusting.

If you have a Boppy and a book on nursing, definitely bring those.

Why are hospitals so cold? Can't they afford to pay the heating bill?

It's funny - all the nurses wear sweatshirts, yet they expect the sick patients to be content in a open-assed nightgown.

I think it is b/c all the machines work better in the cold air, plus, germs don't breed as easily in cold air.

That is just my guess.

Yes, hospitals are chilly.

I always liked when they brought me the heated blankets!

I did not know either, and I hate the cold hiney covers too!

I had to look it up:

A: Hospitals are cold to discourage germs.

"The main reason hospitals are kept cold is that bacterial and germs tend to flourish more in warmer temperatures," says Lori Harris of the Desert Springs Hospital in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The temperature in the Desert Springs Hospital emergency and operating rooms is a brisk 68 degrees F (20 degrees C), whereas the lobby is a toastier 72 (22 degrees C).

germs are less likely to spread in cooler temperature

The temparature of out side is more than the temp inside the hospital which is controled by the settings of the AC in the hospital.

Therefore when you go from outside in to the hospital you feel cold.

so youll want a shorter stay in hospital therefore saving the bankrupt NHS a couple of quid

Bacteria thrive in warm conditions.. the air is kept cold to prevent this

Heating increases visitors. It encourages patients to remove their quilts and move from beds. This spreads infection.

Yeah, to discourage germs from setting up a place to live.

There are quite a few people who have answered correctly so far, those being : it is colder to prevent bacteria from breeding as rapidly as they do in a warm, moist(think humid) environment, to keep the patients nice and toasty under the covers IN BED, and in the case of Surgery, where it is always FREEZING....for the comfort of the Surgeons and Scrub techs. Yes, you heard right, it is for the doctors' benefit, not the patients....but if you have ever seen a TV show where the doc's are all gowned up, then you know that they not only have on their scrub uniform, but sometimes 10 pounds of lead for x-rays AND the gown on....so if they were to start to sweat, that could potentially contaminate the person being operated on--hence the colder temps. Luckily they use warming blankets on the patient :)

I work in a hospital and ill tell you why its cold. If a patient has an open but night gown and its cold outside his/her cover what would you do. Stay in bed That's right. patients need to stay in there bed so they don't fall and so they can rest and get better. also, the germs don't spread in cold air as well.

Because of the machines they have there. And the patients, who normally stay in bed, should use blankets.

I have been told by hospital staff that germs do not grow as fast in a cool environment, thus, the cold hospital. Ask for more blankets.

(That also is the explanation I got for the cold greyhound bus and for cold airplanes.)

alll right only smart pepole will try to ancer this ancre my ????s to please i have to know i have to

ooo and its cuzz i love romen noodles thats why

I think hospitals are cold because of the machines they operate and if it was too hot then the machines break down. My mum works in a call centre and it's the same there, the temperature is always lower to cater for the amount of computers in the room.

hahahahhaa, nice jokes

should i bring diapers? a pacifier?

i really dont know what else i should pack. all advice is apreciated.

i read you should take extra undies? like how many pairs?

The hospital usually has diapers and pacifiers but you should take some so if you plan to go some where after the birth of your baby you can change him. You should pack a sock with two tennis balls in it because a family member can message you while you are in labor. You can also put rice in a sock and bring that because it feels good when you heat it and you are in labor because sometimes your body temp will change a lot. You could take a pillow with you. I did and it made me feel more comfortable to have something from my bed with me while I was laying on the hospital bed. You can also pack some snacks and some drinks because your husband my get hungry and sometimes after you have a baby you will feel hungry too. I sure did.

I brought pads with me because I didn't like the type they had at the hospital. They'll give you nursing pads there. They also have diapers, and pacifiers there, and usually formula too. You might want to bring slippers and a bathrobe. I don't know how it is with a regular delivery, but when I had my babies I had a c-section and had to take a few walks around the halls so I had my bathrobe so I wouldn't expose myself. Oh, and make sure with your nightgown that its easy to nurse in. You don't want to have to pull your dress/nightgown all the way up to feed the baby. Good luck!

HELLO,u should take in a pack of newborn size nappies for the baby.a few sets of clothes for the newborn and especially some sanitary towels ive found the best 1s are the always maxi the night time ones they r about 1.90 for 12 from superdrug and boots.i dont know if you can take the laptop in fone the maternity ward of your hospital and ask them.

Congratulations if you need any more advice my e-mail is samhickinbottom@yahoo.co.uk. this e-mail is for the use of the person asking the question n nobody else

i packed some most of the stuff you have..

pack towels

pads

laptop can go to but not a big thing because he has to pay attention

to you.

diapers

pacifier

I packed 10 under wears and used all.

I would pack a blanket for you and the baby so that yall can bond.

But CONGRATS on the baby is it a BOY or GIRL.

Slippers with rubber soles! Walking around on the hospital floor is nasty! Even with socks on. I recommend a dark color.

Help me out with Irony on thiese 2 subjects?

- A woman gave her maid a old nightgown (which the woman bought to take to the nursing home) and then the maid gave birth to a baby????

and

--- maid killing her baby and putting it in a tin that had milk in it and giving it to the milk boy

- maid taking care of kids, while killing her own

explain the ironies

Well, irony is something that happens, which is the opposite of what was expected.

In story one, the irony is that the nightgown was in two places where birth was given.

In story two, there is no irony because obviously if she put the bab y in a milk tin, where else would she give the milk tin to other than the milk boy?

Last, in story three, the irony is that the maid is able to take care of other people's kids while killing her own, which if she takes care of other's kids, then she SHOULD like kids, and maybe want to have her own, but instead she is killing her own.....that's messed up.

This is perhaps a more difficult question than you realize, because even the dictionary ties itself in knots trying to define what irony is. But it refers to the reader's (hearer's) perception that two or more associated facts have implications that are either contradictory in meaning or moral value, or more similar than first meets the eye. People wise in the ways of the World appreciate irony because it so often illustrates the way things actually are as opposed to the carey-sharey fantasy that social engineers - the apostles of "Political Correctness" - would have us believe.

I have no idea of what your first example means. The second implies that the milk boy gave the girl a baby in the course of his rounds, and she gave it back to him - also in the course of his rounds. (This is irony at its very best.) The third example, although grotesquely exaggerated, could be an ironic allusion to "day care."

Does your Dog do this?

I have a pekingese thats a little over a year and a half. The last month or so he has taken to trying to suckle/ nurse on my nightgown & blanket. I stop him. He only does this to MY stuff, not my husband or daughters or even his own toys. He knows I am Alpha in the house and has to be near me at all times and has to touch me when we sleep at night. Mostly he lays on/near my feet but the past few days he has not been feeling well (allergies)and has taken to laying by head, trying to share my pillow. I have had large breed dogs all my life and have worked with training personal protection and obediance. Little dogs are kind of new to me and this behavior, while cute, is baffling. Any suggestions? Thank you in advance.

You know this is a comfort thing like kids who suck their thumb it is just a comfort thing. Dont be worried he is fine . he just thinks your it' s mama. Good Luck and God bless.

Love your puppy.... Don't force him to do what you want.... Train your puppy with patience....

My dog follows me around all day long, shares my pillow at night and chews on my shoes whenever she can put her little paws on them. Not my husbands shoes, just mine. That's love for her and major expense for me. But what's one more ruined pair of shoes compared to love and devotion she gives me every second of every day?! Enjoy your dog's love and attention.

i have a yorkie who does exactly the same,as soon as i sit down he is there on my lap, doesnt bother to sit on anyone else, when i go to bed he is there on my feet or legs he is my shadow

I know, don't you think it is cute and funny.I have a female Doberman Pinscher who is almost 10 years old. I got her from her breeder when she was about three months old so I didn't take her away from her mother at too young of age,but I can't say at what age the breeder took her away from her mother. Any how, for years she has suckled on toss pillows that you would have on a couch. At start she got one off my couch and started doing that(I've never seen a dog do this before}. Now I buy toss pillows especially for her and she knows not to bother the ones on the couch. The pillows is the only thing she has ever done this to. I also have a male and female dobie that came from this female and they have never done this. Why they do this I'm not sure, but I thought maybe she was taken from her mother at too young of an age. You could try a little toss pillow and that way maybe she won't do this suckling to your personal belonging. My dog even takes her paws and needs the pillow while she suckles.Just like she was nursing on her mother. Could you imagine(the so called viscious doberman} doing this? Like I said I think it is cute and she's really not hurting anything. The pillows belongs to her.

I have four dogs (large breed), a mother and 3 of her offspring. Even though they are over a year old now, once in a while they will still try to suckle, and their mother lets them.

I think maybe your pup has decided your its mama.

Looks like he's being affectionate, but I have never had such an animal, so I don't know.

I have a giant Schnauzer who is the same way. We got him when he was 5 weeks old and from day one, it's been me that he has to be near, and protect. It's like I'm "mommy" to him. I believe your dog is looking to you to help him feel better and feel safe right now since he is sick. My dog can pick out my socks from a pile and my towel that I had used from the ones other people in our house had used. Its really amazing how the dogs mind works and who they get most attached to. I don't know if this is anything you will be able to change. he has chosen you to be his. My dog is almost 7 years old and has always been this way...Good Luck !!!

generally little dogs need much more attentions

lets walking him around new areas like new parks or new streets..

i wish it will be usefully...

good luck

Packing my Hospital Bag?

I have read what to pack and different things but now that I am trying to pack it, I dunno what to pack!

I have already packed a nursing nightgown, and robe, slippers, an outfit for the baby to come home in.

I am going to put in a brush, toothbrush, toothpaste,.....

WHAT ELSE? I am 34 weeks!

Hairclips/ties/barrets to keep hair out of your face

nursing pads

nursing or supportive bra

socks so your feet don't get cold

shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste, toothbrush, bodywash, facewash

books and magazines and maybe crossword puzzle books

a phone charger, if you or your partner want to use cell phones to call family

camera and extra batteries

deodorant

lipbalm

list of phone numbers to call

a few diapers

nailclippers for baby

pads (although I think they give you some)

comfortable underwear

your own pillows, if you want

makeup, if you'd like to wear it or put it on

an extra outfit for baby, in case he/she spits up on the one you have packed

if the weather is cold or chilly, I'd take a baby coat or sleeper for her

warm baby blanker if it's cold, thinner one if it's not so cold

going home outfit for you; something comfortable to wear

carseat (has to be properly installed)

That's about all I can think of :)

Oh, and maybe some snacks. You'll be tired and hungry afterwards!

I packed; the items you mentioned plus an outfit for me to come home in a comfy one, like a tracksuit.

I also packed pads, because I like the ones with wings and the ones they give you are really huge and bulky. I also packed comfy warm socks, because it gets really cold, especially in the labor room. I also packed shower items because I am allergic to the soap and shampoo they use in the hospital and I packed lotion as well.

A lot of people forget to make sure that their car seat is properly installed, they will not let you leave the hospital with the baby unless the seat is installed correctly. If it is cold where you are (assuming your in a pretty cold place around xmas and not Florida, Arizona or the like (chilly)), Id suggest you pack a very warm blanket to place over the car seat.

My bag included, a change of clothes for my Husband, 2 outfits for baby along with a hat & blanket. I brought travel size shampoo & body wash along with a rag. Came in handy BTW. I did not bring any pads because they give you those at the hospital. I also packed deodorant, tooth brush, hair brush and a disposable camera, flip flops and some extra undies because if you have a natural delivery you will be bleeding ALOT. I also brought a book & a cd player because I was allowed to play Enya while I was giving birth. Made it very relaxing. I brought a pair of socks because it gets cold in those rooms. I had a pair of clothes for me to wear when I left because you are in the hospital gown until you get ready to leave. You have to make sure u have a car seat set up properly before they will let you leave with the baby. They will inspect it. That's all I brought and anything else I needed they provided.

I packed all that stuff that the books tell you the first time - and I didn't need ANY OF IT! It was such a bloody mess (sorry, gross, but true) that I just wore the hospital issued gowns. This time I'm just packing toiletries, something to wear home and an old crappy pair of slippers that can be thrown away when I leave the hospital.

You will need the ridiculously large pad/diapers they give you. Yea - they are big...but you'll need big for the first few days. Trust me!

i just finished packing my bag last weekend, i packed playing cards, in case i am there a while, and a cross word puzzle and notebook paper b/c you never know what you may learn that you don't want to forget. i packed plenty of different lotions and chapsticks, b/c the nurses at my class said it was a good relaxation technic and you don't know what kind of fragrance you will be in the mood for. i packed blankets for the baby to keep her warm on the way home too. i packed all you said, and these things. don't forget deodorant and pads!!!!!!!! you should be bleeding after wards and you will need pads!!!! and plenty of fresh underwear. :) i also packed a couple of pictures. one of my wedding day, and one of the beach where we got married at, the nurses said to put pictures around the room of happy relaxing times, or places to help us stay focused during labor. kind of a focus point. somewhere in the room we can look at. you are not going to always stare at your support person. hope i helped :)

Maxi pads (the ones they give you in the hospital are ridiculously large and uncomfortable)

Shampoo/conditioner/body wash

An outfit for you to wear (something comfy)

Make up (it's nice to feel like a human again)

Names and numbers of people to call

Change for the snack machines

I had this problem, everything u said is correct, pad's, breast pads cos you will leak throug dependin when ya milk comes, Pack SEVERAL baby outfits as when my daughter was born in the space off 4hours she had to be changed 5 times as she kept being sick, all together whilst she was in hospital i went through 12 baby grow's and i was only in there 2days lol

pads, tucks, shampoo and soap and lotion and warm socks and hair ties and makeup and a warm comfy outfit to go home in. More than one nightgown and undies. Nursing bra, deodorant, maybe your own pillow

shirt

pants

underwear

socks

toothbrush

hairbrush

pillow

blankets

for partner

pajamas, extra socks, plenty of panties..and buy your own pads the ones at the hospital are like diapers seriously.bring a hair dryer and stuff you may want to spruce yourself up after a shower. you might want to even bring things to snack on if your not into hospital food.

good luck :O)

lol, I'm 37 weeks and I've been having the same problem, I started packing about a week and a half ago, and I'm kinda lost, even though I have a list.

towel, brush, toothpaste/brush

flannel

night dress and slippers dressing gown

baby outfit

blanket for baby

trackie bottom 4 u afterwards

and hat scarf gloves now its cold out

hope the baby comes outb okai

Here is a check list of what you will need..

Do I really need my own nightgown/robe for my hospital bag?

The hospital said that they prefer to just provide them, but I'm not sure they'll have anything that will cover me up satisfactorily during my recover period. Will I be allowed to wear sweats and a t-shirt or do I have to stay in a gown the whole two days after? I've been to three stores in the last few weeks and I almost started crying today after shopping for three hours trying to find some sort of nighty or robe to bring to the hospital. I always just wear flannel pants, sweats or shorts and a tank or t-shirt. All the robes I've found are super-short. The nightgowns don't fit and most don't button (making it easier to nurse without lifting your whole gown up). What items do I ACTUALLY need for this bag? I hate shopping and tend to get depressed when I can't find what I need, so I want to avoid going "out there" again if possible. I ended up settling on some crappy nursing bras in a box from Mervyns because they were the first I could find that would fit me and I was too depressed to keep shopping around more stores.

I'd suggest you stick with getting some kind of nightgown rather than using sweats. I too prefer pants or shorts... but remember, you may end up having a c-section or episiotomy or something, and you can't be wearing pants if you need the nurse's assistance for the first day or two! So, personally I'd rather have a nightgown than go starkers under the sheet.

That said, you could always use a hospital gown. They've already said they prefer to provide them -- I'm certain they are able to accomodate a wide range of body types for both men and women. Even with the tie-shut kind, often you wear one on your back (like a bathrobe) and one on your front, so nothing is flapping in the breeze!

You can wear whatever you want once you have had the baby!! They can advise you to wear the hospital robe when you are in labour and giving birth but after that its up to you what you wear!

I wore a tracksuit and my own dressing gown whilst i was recovering (was in for 4 days due to c-section) and that did me just fine! Take whatever you feel comfortable in and dont let them boss you about, its up to you!!

I stole a night gown from my mom who is bigger then me that i plan to wear... But you don't really NEED to bring one. If the back being open just isn't your thing just bring your sweat pants to wear under the hospitals and think of it this way you don't have to take it home and wash it

dont get upset hun wear whatever is comfortable to u, u can wear whatever u want. try a maternity store at the mall or look online best of luck, i got my gown at wal mart and it is a nursing gown it doesnt button up but it has slits in it and it was a little big but it was comoftable and it wasnt tight which u dont want

Oh my...you can wear exactly what you want! It's a hospital not a prison...your body, your baby, you birth experience...remember YOU are in charge...of course you can wear sweats..I did....and a big t shirt...you dont have to wear, do or say anything you dont want to..you're in charge!

You cant wear sweats and a t-shirt at the hospital (which sucks) because you will be bleeding and a nurse will be coming in to clean you up. You would just ruin the pants. You can take a nightgown of your own, but it will get ruined.

I would suggest getting one just because you don't want to walk around in a hospital gown for 2 days. Your family will be in and out and the robes that tie in the back aren't exactly flattering. I went to wal mart and got a nursing robe and it was great. Here are links to a couple, then you could just order them online and not have to worry about going out.

1 thing you will learn VERY quickly in hospital about the midwives there... they are extremely opinionated on what THEY think you must and mustn't do from what you wear, to how you feed your bub ect... my most valuable piece of advice being a veteran (2 kids already and 1 on the way lol) is this.... ignore what they tell you and do what feels right!!! I wore a crappy old nighty to deliver my babies in, then i had a shower right after, and chucked on pants and a shirt and spent the entire time i was in hospital wearing similar clothes! Do not let yourself get worked up over what they want you to say... because really... with no complications arising.. you're able to safely leave hospital 6 hrs after giving birth... so if they peeve you off enough... just go home!!

Goodluck darl and don't stress... having a baby is stressful enough as it is without them being particularly annoying!

I wore their crappy gowns. One normally and one to like a robe to cover my ***. I was glad to wear and stain their clothes. :) You pass allot of gross things the first few days. Lots of blood clots etc. Its not like I didn't have a giant pad on its just as soon as you move you gush. Anyhow I brought my own long terry cloth type robe for when I took my son and went wandering. Wear what you want anyhow. Just don't wear anything too nice cause anything can happen.

You can wear whatever you want! You can even give birth naked if you want. They'll give you a quick "down there" exam before you go home. You can wear whatever you want-- all you'll have to do is take your pants off for 5 minutes. You're giving birth-- you've earned the right to be comfy!

I'd prefer sweat pants (loose) or loose flannel pants and a baggy t-shirt. You could find a shirt that zips or buttons down the front, or even just wear a bath robe. You don't need to wear a nightgown if you don't want to. By the way, expect to still look about 5 months pregnant after you give birth. So get clothes that will fit that.

Losing Weight While Nursing!?

Can anyone give me any tips on losing weight while nursing...I have a 3 year old and a 3 month old...I have lost some weight but I am soo hungry this time...I have soo many cravings more then when I was pregnant! Atleast when I was pregnant I could eat alot and blame the baby now who can I blame! I dont miss being pregant no I dont miss walking thru a door with my tummy first and then my head appearing but jeez it is driving me crazy! I am still wearing some of my maternity clothes which is sad and these horrible night gowns that I promised my self I would never wear...Whenever I wear them I get an awful dream I am driving wearing that nightgown and with my kids and get pulled over by a cop for a ticket.& there is a huge crowd of people pointing and laughing at me.....Sorry just venting....I am pumping milk too this time so maybe,.....Please share any stories of hope...I know in a healthy way!!! Thanks!

Weight Watchers has a good program for nursing moms. I don't know it I'd have ever lost the weight without it!

I've gotten back to my pre-baby goal weight twice- once after each child- and kept nursing though weight loss and beyond. It can be done!

i have no tips :( I just wanted to let you know i asked a similar question just hours ago!! I know how you feel. I have about 40 pounds to loose - email your address or something if you would like to be weight loss buddies. It may help! Good Luck!

Awww, lol! Well, breastfeeding burns up to 1,200 calories a day! Plus tightens your stomach muscles, your uterus contracts after feedings. I lost all my baby weight breastfeeding my kids, the second baby alot faster than my first one( I gained 53lbs with #1:(). I breastfed both for the first year(my daughter is still nursing) as recommended by AAP. My first baby I lost all my weight completely after about a 1.5 years. For the most part I ate healthy but I still ate whatever I wanted and as much as I wanted to. I didn't exercise at all, just normal everyday activities. Baby #2 is now 17 months and I am been at 118(my normal weight and bikini ready!) for over 12 months:)

Also you should eat six meals a day to help speed up your metabolism. Five of your six meals should be small/medium(as long as your breastfeeding eat as much as you would like:)) size, your biggest meal of the day should be in the morning... your body needs the fuel and you have all day to burn it off. Also I read that people who eat eggs for breakfast loose 65% more fat than people who eat bagels, cereal, ect..

You shouldn't be eating junk... stuff that comes pre packaged. You need lots of fresh veggies and fruit(buy frozen if you can't fo fresh) Eggs, chicken and fish are a great source of protein. Yogurt, cheese, oatmeal are all good little snacks. Don't drink soda it is awful for you and doesn't help when trying to loose weight, stick to water, 100% juice and milk.

Organic apple cider vinegar helps with weight loss. I suggest not drinking it by its self, I like to add apple juice and don't drink more than 2tbs of that stuff a day or you will be stuck on the toilet.... You can find it at health food stores. Also flax seed oil is great to add to your daily diet it has great health benifits:) ***when your baby is old enough to eat solid food I would talk to his Dr about adding flax seed oil to his diet, the fat that comes from it is just what his little brain needs to grow:)

Good luck!!!! And great job breastfeeding!

actually nursing will seriously make you loose weight faster. Me and my friend gave birth at the same month and she is way sexier than me now and it's because she's been breastfeeding since then. Our babies are 9 months old but some folks say when ur breastfeeding some hormones are being released for ur cervix to heal faster and ur pregnancy fats will fortunately goes to ur milk. Its okay to eat coz u know the nutrients will go to ur baby. and when ur on a diet while nursing, it'll cut your milk short.. coz thats what i did. just hang in there. Goodluck.

What to wear at hospital--nursing gown or pj bottoms and nursing top?

okay, which one has worked best for you all. I know we get checked to make sure we are healing okay so I didn't know if pajama bottoms would work or if I should have a nightgown? I havn't liked what I wore in the past so was looking for some advice.

I would just wear the hospital clothing. That way you won't ruin your own clothes and you'll have less laundry! If you have to wear your own close I would just wear a gown without bottoms just to avoid ruining them. Unless of course you are really cold or uncomfortable in just a gown, then PJ bottoms would be fine.

Bring both the outfits and that way you can always decide which one you feel like when you are there, and if one doesn't work you can change into the other.

I'd take a nightgown just in case you end up with a c-section, but I'd also take some roomy pj pants and a nursing top. My favorite nursing top of all time is the Bravado Essential Nursing Tank. It is just soooo comfortable and pretty! I didn't get to change clothes until the next day, and by that time they weren't checking as often (if at all?) to make sure I was healing. You'll probably wear the gown for a while, because they don't let you jump right in the shower after the birth. After I took my shower I switched to my pj pants and was comfortable for visitors.

Check out the Bravado tanks though. They are awesome! Link is below.

I took a nursing night gown and I am SO glad i went with this. I had to change my pad about every hour and I tore from here to yonder so I was WAY to sore to keep my legs open without taking off the pants. Also the nurses kept having to check my stitches and the gown and wonderful disposable, tear off hospital panties helped SO much!! Ow, I can't believe I am going to do that all over again in a few short months!!!

Take both! I was only checked for healing once per day and always at the same time. So wear the gown close to the time you'll be checked and then wear pants the other 23 hours. What did you wear the last time when you weren't comfy?

I wore the hospital gown fom the time I got to the hospital till about 5 hrs after delivery. Then I switched to ..nursing bra, big comfy shirt and big comfy yoga type pants.

I gave it a few hours til I knew they wouldn't come in as often to check me. But I would have wore a night gown but I couldn't find one I really liked.

Good Luck hun, and Congrats!

I wore pj bottoms and a nursing top and I had a vaginal delivery, but the nurses needed to keep checking me because I had an episiotomy so I had to keep taking my pants on and off... so maybe do a night gown just to avoid having to do that.

Really, whatever you're most comfortable in. For me, the nightgown worked best because nurses kept coming in every few hours and needed to lift the gown up to check my stomach and turn me over and check my back side.

Nightgown and pj bottoms to the hospital. That way if you need to you can just slip the bottoms off,but still be covered. Take a bathrobe also,if you want. Hospitals can get kinda cold sometimes.

i wore the hospital gown and brought my robe it was really convenient to me, i had a c-section and i tried putting on my pj pants but it was too tight against my incision

i had a c-section so i never had to worry about the checking me down there they were just looking at my stomach. i wore sweats and a t-shirt. nothing to tight but loose fitting clothing.

if your having vaginally though id think a nightgown

Gown....and you don't have to buy expensive nursing gowns if you don't want to. You can buy gowns that zip from Wal Mart, Sears, Macy's, etc.

I wore the hospital nursing gown, and I had a nice black modest robe for when visitors came. Black is good in case blood gets on it.

I wore pajama bottoms and nursing top, I had a vaginal so after the first couple of hours they just checked my belly.

Hope it helps!

I wore a long cotton skirt with an elastic waist band. I had a c-section, it was the most comfortable thing.

How big was your hospital bag?

I am 34 weeks tomorrow and have been packing my hospital bag for the baby and I. I feel like I am packing my whole house(cd player, pads, clothes, cosmetics, nursing bras, nightgowns, etc)! I have been going off lists from the internet and it just seems like so much stuff! How big was your bag? Am I packing too much or is there just lots of stuff you need? Any advise would be great! Thanks!

Pack some comfortable items to wear after the delivery (once the doctor tells you it is okay to wear your own clothing), You will need your personal items (toothbrush, brush/comb, etc) and of course an outfit for the baby ( I took 2 just in case the first one was a little big) You may also want a baby blanket to go home with. I did not take any extra items like CD player, books, etc because I just delivered and I needed the rest (what little I got, the nurses bug you a lot). The size of my back was a normal back pack/diaper bag. I ONLY took what was necessary for a couple of days. Really it is up to you how much you want to carry...But remember what ever you take you must bring back home and with a baby too! Good Luck and congratulations.

Mine's my carry-on bag. I think I had a bigger bag with my first baby, but this is my 5th, so I've got it down to a science. A lot of the stuff I took to the hospital the first time I NEVER used.

Don't worry about taking too much, I think you'd rather do that than not have something and wish you'd included it. If you have more kiddos, next time you'll have a better idea of what you'll actually want and need.

Congrats, not long now!

I had 2 different bags. One for delivery cd player and the other stuff we thought we would need. Then another bag with 2 changes of clothes and one outfit to take the baby home in and what ever cosmetics I needed. I did get some travel size stuff so as not to take up so much room. The hospital will have pads and gowns for you to wear and they generally are nursing gowns so don't worry about those things. Just remember there is not much room and you can always send someone out to get something for you. Good luck, being a mom is awesome. My daughter is 9 months.

well thats good you getting started now i waited until i was in labor to pack my bag, but you will need for the baby: clothes, socks, t-shirts,car seat,(the hospital will give you diapers, wipes, baby wash, craddle cap brush, hat),blankets, outfit for pictures. For yourself: capstick, hard candy (throat gets dry),loose fitting clothes(sweatpants,t-shirts), socks, nursing bra, nursing nightgown(you dont really need pads cause the hospital will give you those and a ice pad) camera,(get your hair done in a style you dont have to worry about keeping up) i may have missed something but thats about it

One or two nightgowns, slippers, clean undies and things such as a blanket, sleeper or outfit for the baby is all the clothes you should need. you can take a hair dryer and your toothpaste, toothbrush, and other toiletries .

I read somewhere to pack two bags - one for during labor, with your labor goodies (CDs, hard candies, tennis ball for massage, etc.) and a small suitcase with clothes. That being said, I had an emergency c-section 3 weeks ahead of schedule. My labor bag was ready but I didn't have any clothes with me except what I wore to the hospital. In the end it didn't matter because I ended up being much more comfy in hospital gowns! The one thing I'm glad I put in my labor bag in terms of clothing was warm socks - the hospital room temps were all over the place. You probably won't use half of what you pack! I didn't!

I used a med. size duffel bag. I packed a going home outfit for me and the baby and travel size toiletries. I suggest using hospital gowns so yours doesn't get stained and just bring a robe in case you want to walk the halls or when you have company. I was a scheduled csection so I didn't need a cd player or anything like that. The hosp. provided the pads and such so I didn't pack any of those items either. Good luck and congrats.

call the hospital- most of them have a CD player in the room.

same with the pads- the store doesn't sell the ones you need right after anyway. pack a bunch of nightgowns- PJ's are a mistake- overflow of sleeping funny will ruin them.

pack shampoo and body wash (Moisturizing- for some reason skin tends to dry out after) Showers will be your best friend- I must've taken 20 before I left the hospital each time. slippers or plenty of socks and mouthwash and toothpaste. You only need 1 outfit for each of you to wear home. and after that everything else will be provided at the hospital- i.e. diapers, formula.

We have a regular-sized suitcase packed. This is my second pregnancy and the first time we used the same suitcase. We packed nightgowns, and a robe for me, some old underwear, nursing bras, nursing pads, toiletries, clothes for my husband, movies to watch during labor, the digital camera, photo dock, and laptop, coming home outfits for the baby and me, clothes and toiletries for my husband, and some extra room for freebies from the hospital.

I didn't pack that much, nightgown, going home outfit for you and baby, robe, socks, underwear, suckers (come in handy for dry mouth. Don't worry about forgetting something, believe me hubby will be more than happy to get out of the hospital for an hour or two to run errands for you if you do forget something. When you are in the hospital all the attention is around you and the baby, he'll need to get some "fresh air". Plus this gives you and the baby some ALONE time.

I packed my bag 11 times for 11 hospital stays. The lists online are excessive! I packed a suitcase that was carry-on sized. (Large backpack, small gym-bag size)

My list:

Carmex (#1 most important thing!)

Toiletries - deoderant, hair brush, tooth brush and tooth paste is about all that is needed unless you're very fussy and your baby is kept in the nursery, not rooming in.

A skirt to wear during labor - it's easy for them to do exams. MUCH more comfy than a hospital gown!

A support tank or comfy stretchy bra to wear during labor and if you choose to breastfeed. If you think you will NOT opt for early discharge, pack 2 of each.

Pajamas, tank top and robe for recovery. If you think you will NOT opt for early discharge, pack 2 of each.

Camera and batteries.

List of phone numbers if you will want to call people right away.

Baby book if you want to put foot prints in it.

Clothes for baby

___________________

Don't pack:

Pads. The hospital provides them. They're about 4 times as big as a maxi overnight pad. You'll need it!

CD player. Most hospitals provide CD players and CDs.

Cosmetics. Seriously... it will be the last thing on your mind. ... And all the other mothers will hate you for it :)

Nursing bra. I think they're unnecessary and ugly in general. A support tank top and stretchy bra is great. Just slide the bra strap off your shoulder and pull out your boob.

If the hospital has a Mother's Lounge with food, don't pack snacks.

If the hospital provides "meshies" you may not want to pack underwear. If you do, pack LOTS. You'll need them!

Clothes to go home in - you can wear the clothes that you wore to the hospital!

What to wear while in hospital stay?

im planning to pack my bag for my hospital stay soon and im not sure what to pack to wear for myself. my mom told me to get some nursing nightgowns because the nurses check you so often that you wont want to be in pants. i just figured ide pack sweatpants and big tshirts for the 2 day stay in the hospital. what are your opinions?

im an expert at hospital stays.....ive had over 20 surgeries and most ive had to stay at least over night and more. when you get to the hospital they will provide a gown for you, and that is sadly what you will only be wearing the two days. they dont allow or suggest you wear your own clothes not even underwear. you can ask them if you can wear your own clothes but most of the time they will say that you are required to wear their gowns because like you said, you are going to get checked so much that it will be difficult if you have a shirt on and pants. i would just suggest bringing one set of clothes for the ride home so that you have something clean to change into after your stay.....good luck

BUT im only going off of "surgery" stays...it could be different for labor stays.. my sister on the other hand didnt bring her own clothes she wore a gown that they provided so i guess it goes either way,

For the first day in the hospital I just wore a hospital gown and the second day I wore pajamas, because I was more comfortable in that then a night gown. I only had a nurse check me once though, but it could have just been the hospital I was in. Im not sure how often they are actually supposed to. I'd pack comfy sweatpants and shirts or whatever you will be most comfortable in and a night gown just in case. Thats what I packed.

I packed a pair of comfortable pajamas, socks, lots of underwear, pads, nursing bras & pads, and a pair of sweats to go home in. But once I was there, they provided the hospital gown, which I was totally comfortable in so that's what I wore. They also gave me non-skid socks which I wore the entire time. So I ended up not using anything I brought except my going home outfit. The nurses never checked me so pants wouldn't have been an issue at all. But I do agree that it's much easier and more discreet to have a nursing gown or a button up pajama shirt if you plan to breastfeed.

sweatpants are fine but pack dark colored ones, black or navy blue, not pink or anything light colored cuz you will probably bleed through them. they give you the big maxi pads but sometimes they leak over and you dont want a big red stain in the crotch of your sweats. pack pajama shirts that button if you plan on breastfeeding cuz if you wear a shirt that slips over your head you have to take like your whole shirt off and with company coming in and out just having one side unbuttoned and the other side covered is way better. pack a few extra undies too. and house shoes or the socks wit the no slip thingys on the bottom cuz hospital floors are slippery and dirty. dont forget to pack the baby something too! :)

Well, if you have a vaginal birth, sweats will be fine. But I'd pack at least one nightgown just in case you end up with a c-section. You will NOT want pants on top of the incision. I'm sure you don't want a c, but you really never know. I was determined to have a natural birth - no meds or anything - and ended up in a c-section. So I'm glad I packed that nightgown! Good luck!

the nightgowns are a good idea. you want loose comfy clothes. and full panties,no thongs cuz u have to wear pads. nursing bras, nursing pads. dont forget phone chargers and whatever you want to occupy yourself.

When I went on the stork tour of my hospital, alot of the women had robes on. I'm not sure what underneath, and slippers. I packed sweat pants, slippers, shirts, underwear and a robe.

=D

you can get a night gown with the zipper in the front or just stick to wearing the hospital gown they give you since its only for 2 days.

well if i were u i would wear light pajamas

What to pack in my hospital bag?

When I went on the hospital tour, she told us and I have forgotten. She said to have 2 bags though, one for labor and delivery and one for things to go home in/with.

I already know a: robe, nursing nightgown, slippers, the pacifiers (so he gets used to the one I want to use)................

What else needs to be in the bag?

For yourself, I would recommend a few pairs of socks. My feet were cold in the hospital. I also had a pair of flip-flops that aren't flip flops - like nike sports sandals, where you can just put you feet through with socks on. Very nice for when you have to get up for the bathroom, etc, after the baby is born. Mine were kind of stretchy, too, which was nice because my feet never swelled during pregnancy, but after the baby was born, my feet swelled like crazy for a few days.

I also brought my own pillow for labor, since I already bring my own pillow every where I go overnight anyway. I wish I'd brought along extra pillow cases, though, since I ended up vomiting all over my pillow during labor (but the pillow itself was fine since my pillow was encased in and allergy cover). So bring extra pillow cases if you bring your own pillow.

Panties and socks. Some snacks so that your coach doesn't have to leave you all the time to get food. Chap stick. A brush, A hair tie if your hair is long enough for one. Shampoo and soap. Anything you need to make you feel human. And don't forget the camera and extra batteries!

Hi. Having a baby is so exciting!!!

Following is a list of items you may want to pack:

http://www.myplanninglists.com/hospital-labor-delivery-packing-list.php

Good luck!

When my mom had my little sister she also packed her favorite blanket and pillow from home so that she would feel a little more comfortable in the hospital.

Congrats!!! Good Luck!!!

(Hope this helped)

My grandmother is going into a nursing home, what things does she need?

We are unable to go to her house and pack up her personal belongings as my worthless cousins and their extremely aggressive dog live there. We plan to get her a nice warm blanket, some warm nightgowns, a robe, and some slipper socks. What are some other things she will need? Also, what are some things that are not necessities but she might enjoy? I have very little experience with nursing homes but I want her to be comfortable.

Call the nursing home to check on what she will need and what is not allowed. But most of all she will need you, visit as much as possible and a picture of her family or you in a nice frame would be nice too.

Her clothes, toiletries, books, magazines, etc

Hair accessories..reading materials..so far all the items you listed is actually what she needs

Where is the best place to buy nursing bras, sleepwear and clothes?

Hi,

I am currently 36 weeks pregnant and I am looking for nursing stuff (bras, nightgowns, shirts, etc.). Are there any stores that carry that kind of stuff other than Motherhood Maternity. Our local store is pretty small and their selection is not that great. By the way, I live in Virginia in case that makes a difference. Thanks for any advice you can give! :)

Kohl's is my favorite place for maternity clothes. They are very cute and flattering, and when they go on sale the prices are great.

As for nursing gowns, it's very hard to find pretty nightgowns at a good price. The majority of nursing gowns come up to the knee and look like big baggy t-shirts with slits in the top. I also tried one of the famous Aimee Nursing Gowns but it was also knee-high, the fabric was thick and the top didn't fit very well.

I suggest you go to your local department stores and check out their nightgowns and lingerie. You could look for button down gowns or ones with stretchy fabric that can be pulled back.

For nursing bras....I love these people:

http://breakoutbras.stores.yahoo.net/cst.html

Great service and they guarantee a great fit, and shipping is FREE. Locally, Target has some good nursing bras and camis.

One of the best sites for nursing bras and sleepwear is Bare Necessities.

They have a large assortment of nursing bras in all price ranges. http://www.barenecessities.com/search.asp?search=Nursing+Bras&mode=1

They also have awesome nursing sleepwear.

These were my favorite pj's!

Link to nursing camis

This is an awesome cami for shrinking your mid section post partum!

Hope this helps! Good luck!

Kohls has some stuff, and also Old Navy usually has a good selection of maternity clothes!

Also, check out the maternity ward of your hopsital, they usually have a boutique of sorts that sells these sorts of things too!

Please look nursing bras at Amazon.

http://www.amazon.com/s/qid=1223576216/ref=sr_nr_seeall_10?ie=UTF8&rs=&keywords=nursing%20bras&rh=i:aps,k:nursing%20bras,i:baby-products&tag=discount.save-20

Hope this help.

Good Luck.

I got a great nursing bra (nice and padded not to thin) bra at Prime Outlet in Williamsburg (it think it was Prime outlet anyway)..and the price was good to, I think only around16$$$ for a nursing bra.

I try to save money as much as possible... So I got my stuff from Walmart and Target, they have nice selections too!

When you were in the hospital, did you prefer to wear pj shorts or a nightgown?

I am getting my bag packed for the hospital and I cant decide on a pj shorts or pants with a button down top for nursing or a nightgown that button downs a little. What did you prefer? I hate how overly big the hospital gowns are on me so after the first day I want to change into my own clothes.

bring both. this way you can change when one doesn't work for you.

I wore the hospital gown like NY as to not get blood on my clothes. But if you want to wear your own do a night gown that buttons down the front it would be easier than pants(in my opinion)

I had pajama pants and wore a button down shirt.

I also stayed in a hospital gown because I didn't want to bleed all over my own clothes. I packed a night gown but I didn't wear it and it would have been very impractical for nursing anyway.

In the hospital they press on your stomach a lot so shorts would also be impractical.

you will probably want to stay in there gowns because the night after there is alot of blood you have to change your padding alot so its easier th have a either the hospital gown or something like it if you prefer you own stuff but it will probably get ruined

Don't take bottoms. Take the gown that buttons down far enough to nurse. You will bleed and ruin your shorts. Take OLD panties with you. I never wore their gowns except for the OR.

Good luck and best wishes.

I breastfeed too and I live in tank tops, even in the winter. I packed long jammie pants and my 2 maternity tanks. For the most part, I stayed in bed due to a classical c-section, but when I got up and walking around I got dressed. Make sure to pack the oldest, ugliest undies you have and also some pads, lol.

Night gown! You are not going to want anything tight or restrictive in that area for a bit. It might not be too bad if you have a natural birth with no tearing but if that doesn't happen you want a gown! I wound up with a completely unplanned c-section and it took almost 12 weeks before I could wear pants comfortably unless I wore them like a punk with my underwear hanging out or like Urkel, jacked up to my arm pits LOL. Also you will likely wind up with a catheter stuck up there natural or c-section birth and that left me really sore for a few days as well in that area.

Also make sure you are bringing Grandma underwear with you for the same reason (you know the kind, looks like you could construct a tent out of them, even the smallest sized ones). You still need something to hold the pad but you don't want something that is going to ride up your butt crack if you have tears or where the elastic hits the surgery opening. I still have pairs of underwear I can't wear 4 months later because the elastic band hits right where the scar is.

I wore my own clothes too in the hospital for comfort. I just made sure they were stuff I didn't care about getting stained. About the only benefit to having the c-section was that while they were in me, they pretty much vacuumed me out so my post partum bleeding was minimal.

Good luck and hope all goes as planned!

I am another one that just wore the hospital gowns.

I took a set of cute PJ's and when I saw how much muck there was I decided to stay in there stuff. Then I could ruin that and change frequently.

Go for a two-piece set, that why you an retain a little modesty when you're being prodded and poked. When I was in the hospital, I had to wear the gown, but I also wore pj pants underneath for comfort and modesty.

Nightgown and a robe. Oh and don't forget comfy slippers

I wore the hospital gown for the first day.. (I gave birth at about 1:30 in the afternoon..) and the next day I took a shower and changed into some very loose pants and my own underwear and a regular shirt..

I can't stress enough how much you will NOT want to put pressure down there.. and shorts are usually tighter than a loose pair of pj pants or a nightgown... definitely think LOOSE and that'll be the most comfy.

you do get a lot of follow up visits to be checked down there on the first and second day, so take that into consideration. it hurts to do anything.. and the act of taking off shorts will hurt, I guarantee it.

I say, get the nightgown.. :)

good luck and congrats!!

I wore the gown they gave me in the hospital.

Iwould pack a night gown that isnt tight around your lower abdomen. Because even after you have your baby your gonna still feel pain in that area and its gonna be very sensative. Because your uterus still contracts after you have the baby and eveything because it contracts itself down to its normal size. Also when nurses come in to check you your gonna wanna be a in a gown cause its painful and messy. So bring a few night gowns to the hospital so you have clean gowns.

Actually, neither. I stayed in the hospital gown because of the bleeding. I didn't want to leak on my own stuff. It was easy to nurse in it as well.

I prefered the hospital nightgown so that I wouldn't bleed on my own clothes. Also the nightgown was soo helpful because I didn't have to pull any pants down. Pulling my underwear down was painful enough. Each person has a different pain level, but I was in pain since the dr had to cut me a little down there and I had some hemmroids.

a nightgown with buttons down the front. It was more comfortable and easier for dr. follow-ups

There's a lot of bleeding after a baby is born. Especially during the first 24 hours. The hospital will have you wear these extra big pads for protection but even with those I could remember getting out of bed and there was a small puddle on the floor. Wearing 2 pads prevented leaks but you still have to change them often. If you manage to sleep for a long while then you'll probably leak even with 2 pads. There is a pretty good possibility that you'll stain your own pajamas if you bring your own. That's the reason why most moms use the hospital gowns.

For myself, I wouldn't have minded my own 2 piece pajamas after the first 24 hours but not before then.

Night Gown Of Course

After I had my IV taken out I put on a pad, wore pajama pants and a regular shirt with a nursing bra. Just remember that most hospitals will provide pads, but they are very uncomfortable. So I recommend bringing your own brand and make sure to take breast pads. I didn't know that my first time giving birth and I leaked the whole time in the hospital.

During delivery I wore the hospital gown with a comfy robe (that ended up getting blood all of over it when they put baby on my chest). Then as they helped me get cleaned up a bit post-delivery I put on a clean gown and these awful mesh undie thingy with a huge granny pad. I was in the mother-baby room. Then some family came in to say hi, check in on me, and of course see baby. I had on the gown with my hubbies robe that he put in his bag. Then after everyone left I put on a t-shirt and a pair PJ pants (after a much needed shower) which did get ruined but I didn't care because it was comfy and I felt a bit better. Also bring with some older undies because you will end up throwing them away. The hospital gowns are always huge on me too. Good luck!

i wore pants and shirt just a few hours after giving birth with all of mine, it was much more comfy.

mine didn't button down though i just lifted it up and if someone came in i threw a blanket over me.

so i just suggest whatever is comfy to you

I opted for the nightgown but I ended up just using the hospital gown because it was more convenient.

I used the gowns. I didn't want to get my clothes all messy. But my bleeding was moderate the next day so i put my own pj's on then.

Hospital bag and where to find a good nursing nightgown?

Hello! I have a few questions for you ladies about packing a hospital bag.

What did you pack in your hospital bag?

What was a waste of space?

Was there anything you wished you had packed?

Do you know a good place to find a nightgown for the hospital, I plan on nursing, any tips would be great!

Thanks in advance for all of you answers! I hope everyone is having a great day!

Before I suggest some ideas, have you gone to your hospital orientation or checked with the hospital about it?

I attended a hospital orientation before giving a birth and came home with a list of things they wanted or suggested moms to bring.

I didn't need pajamas because the hospital provided them; great for nursing BTW!

* bring warm socks & slippers! I used socks during delivery and after...

* a robe

* bring extra pads ; the hospital however provided them for me

* towel and toiletries

* LIP BALM- You'll need it!!!

* camera

* phone book

* phone card / I called overseas

* sudoku/ crossword puzzle / just in case =)

* clothing for going home

* baby's clothing for going home; blanket, CARSEAT!!!

* you may want to bring extra juices, power bars or fruits IF hospital allows it

... some moms brought their boppy pillows to get used to using them when nursing

Good Luck!

- mommy of a 8month old girl!

In my bag I packed

five pairs of underwear

five pairs of socks

three comfy sweat suit outfits, an outfit to wear home

toothbrush/paste

my own shampoo/conditioner, lotion, deoderant (the hospital ones suck),

brush

make up

my own pillow

slippers

robe

hard candy (for when in labor so my mouth doesnt get so dry)

powerade

nursing bras

breast pads

breast cream

maxi pads

for hubby

swim trunks so he can get in hot tub with me

cellphone and charger

camera

snacks

drinks

magazines

extra clothes

socks

boxers

for baby

carseat

mittens

caps

socks

a couple of warm take home outfits

a couple of onesies

As for the nursing night gown, I was just at Kohls the other day and they had the cutest pajamas that were capri like bottoms and top was a button down long sleeve shirt, it's not made for nursing but it would work since it buttons down. Goodluck and congrats

The only things that I really used that I had packed were my pajamas, pillow, comb and hair ties, toothbrush and toothpaste, and my camera. I think I would have been more excited about showering with my own towels and shampoo and conditioner if I wasn't so exhausted from labor. I was on a pitocin drip overnight, so I hadn't slept well, and was too tired to do much else. I don't really wish I had taken anything else, except snacks for my husband and a book for him to read.

If you are planning on having a natural birth, or delaying an epidural for a while, or even if you have a low tolerance to pain, tennis balls are great for someone to massage your back with. After I had an epidural, my skin was really itchy. The nurses said it was just an effect of the anesthesia, but I was really glad that I had lotion.

This isn't about what I took to the hospital, but I wish I had remembered to buy maxi pads earlier. My water broke a week early, and I hadn't been to the store. My husband wasn't comfortable buying me pads, so there I was in walmart after being discharged from the hospital buying them.

I went into the hospital at about 11pm Sunday night and checked out by 8 Tuesday night. I wasn't there long enough to need many changes of clothes or anything, but pack according to how long you are planning on staying.

Best of luck with your new baby and finding a nursing nightgown.

You don't really need a nightgown for the hospital. The hospital gowns snap up the sleeves so it's easy access for nursing. Just bring a robe (& slippers).

Another note about nightgowns... I had a couple of the nursing ones from Motherhood. I used them a bit at first, but later, I was just easier (and warmer - it was winter) to wear flannel pjs. Button down works well. Anyway, here is a link to the sleepwear at Motherhood if you are interested:

For an outfit for yourself to wear home, bring something comfy and big, since you're still not back to normal size.

Best wishes!

When I had my daughter, the hospital gave me a gown exclusively for breastfeeding moms. It was way better than anything I took with me.

I packed a couple of pajama's that were button down shirt types as well as a "skinny" outfit to wear home. The rest was the usual, toothbrush, hair brush etc. I was also smart enough to pack a couple of those nursing shields for "leaking". The waste of space I wish I hadn't packed...the extra car seat since the hospital gave us one to take her home in.

Congratulations!

The best gowns for nursing are those that button or zip down the front!! keeps you from having to hike up your gown from the bottom just to nurse!!

Pack all the toiletries...toothpaste, brush, shampoo, etc

Pack a book or magazine

Pack socks or slippers

Pack going home clothes & baby's going home clothes

Pack camera/video camera

Pack phone book to call everyone

Pack portable music player

I found a good nightgown that buttoned 4 buttons only at Walmart for like $6

you won't need a nursing nihtgown.

You got some good answers here.. But I just wanted to add- don't bother spending money for a nursing nightgown... Just find one that buttons or zips up the front. Trust me. =) GL!

P.s. Target has great nursing tanks... I used those a lot in the beginning weeks Post partum.

Motherhood has nice nursing gowns. Also in the hospital the gowns are made for nursing, but I wanted to change into my own PJ's real quick.

As for the bag the above answers have covered it. I wish I would have brought my own towels. There were ones there to use but they were tiny. I'm used to my long, soft ones from home. Also a throw blanket from home would have been nice too. Good luck!

I wouldn't take your own night gown because you're still going to be bleeding. I would take a bath robe just to put over the night gown that you get at the hospital. I'm due in May, that's what I'm doing. I don't want to buy a night gown just to ruin it. Make sure to bring a nursing bra and pads for the bra.

Mouth wash!!

What do fashion design companies look for in an applicant?

My friend wants to go to college to study fashion design, and I am helping her look for a school. Does the name of the college matter to the people who might be hiring her? What sorts of things should we look for in a "good" program?

How exactly do you pronounce the Fashion Designers name?

I am like the Fashion Queen! But i have always been confused how to say his first name, Christian Louboutin. I his first name pronounced Christ-ian like you say Christ and then ian like kinda souonds like eon but speelled ian? How exactly? Thanksss!

here check these links, you can exactly here how his name is pronounced and even the names of other people in the fashion industry:

The first name is Christian pronounced like you said it, but the last name doesn't have a "tin" at the end of it like some have said. It's Lew boo tahn. I am meeting Msr. Louboutin next Tuesday at a shoe signing at his new boutique here in CA. You have to purchase a pair of shoes that day to meet him and have him sign. That's okay though...I'm an addict.

Chris-chi-on (I would assume it's pronounced the french way)

Lew-boo-teh

Chris-tea-ann low-boo-tin

Chris-chun Low-Boo-Tin.

kris-chen le-bi-ton the "ton" is quit with very little stress.

Kris tee yan Lou boo teen
